The Biggest Picture
The Eye, The Idea and The Emotion
The balance between looking, thinking and emotion is the fundamental and timely theme of Aldeburgh ART, the festival devoted to visual art
Exhibitions, performances, talks, fish n chip art chats, plays, parties and more.
In its second year, Aldeburgh ART attracts some of the art world’s most erudite personalities, as well as showcasing Suffolk’s vibrant art scene with pop up events all around Aldeburgh.
There are six key events which explore the three aspects (the eye, the idea and the emotion) of our powerful theme, The Biggest Picture.
Martin Gayford, Art historian, describes why David Hockney’s exhibition at the Royal Academy has heralded a reawakening of the value of looking (the eye).
Simon Wilson, Art critic and former senior Tate curator, explains why Marcel Duchamp, founding father of conceptual art is so influential 100 years after his first iconoclastic art works (the idea).
Razia Iqbal, the BBC Special Correspondent, examines how emotion has been used as an essential ingredient by modern painters, such as Roger Hilton (the emotion).
Cedar Lewisohn, who has curated many of Tate’s most contemporary shows, analyzes the legacy of Duchamp amongst today’s young artists, in conjunction with four practising conceptual artists (the idea).
Roger Hilton’s soul is laid bare as an artist and human being in the hugely acclaimed play Botallack O’Clock (the emotion).
Sargy Mann, the artist, reveals how he continues to paint despite now being totally blind (the eye).
Join in the conversation and fun! Say whatever you want about art during our fish n chip art chats each day!
Festival tickets are £60 each for the six key events, which are on Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th June. (Two festival tickets for the price of one if booked before 1st June). Single events are £10 each.
